In-N-Out Burger
In-N-Out Burger
Opened in 1948 in Baldwin Park, by owners Harry and Esther Snyder. The 100 sq ft burger stand was California’s first true drive-thru, where customers ordered through a two-way speaker (as opposed to carhops). Each morning Harry Snyder personally went out to shop for fresh meat and produce from the local market and Esther was in charge of the accounting which she did from their home in Baldwin Park. She was also the one who emphasized employee welfare and benefits as the company grew. The growth was slow and deliberate, opening just a few locations over the first few years. By the 70s there were 18 stores open. In 1976, when Harry Snyder passed, his son Rich Snyder became president at only 24 years old. In the 1980s In N Out Burger grew to over 50 locations, but all within the Southern California region, keeping the menu unchanged and maintaining food quality. In 1993 the first In N Out opened in Northern California, and then after that the first one out of the state in Nevada. Today there are currently 424 In N Out Burger locations across eight states!
