Originally built in 1953 and called Malibu Shores Motel, The Surfrider was right next door to Neil Young’s bar, The Crazy Horse Saloon (Later the Malibu Inn) and would become the after-party spot for people such as The Doors and Jimi Hendrix in the 1960s and ‘70s.

 

It Also made a brief appearance in the cult film Endless Summer in 1966. After being bought and renovated by architect Matthew Goodwin, his wife and their partner, it was later reopened in 2016 with it’s new name The Surfider.
